JBNU is accelerating its efforts to cultivate global talent by introducing a system that recognizes overseas volunteer activities as formal academic credits.
JBNU announced on the 21st that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for "Academic Credit Recognition for Overseas Volunteer Service."
The official signing ceremony took place on April 17 in the conference room of the Industry-University Cooperation Office, University Headquarters, with Yun Myeong-suk, Executive Vice-President of Foreign Affairs and Professional Affairs, JBNU, Jeong Yun-gil, Director of KOICA's Global Talent Project Division, and other key officials from both organizations in attendance.
The core of the agreement is to enable JBNU students to receive formal academic credit for WFK (World Friends Korea) overseas volunteer activities carried out by students dispatched to developing countries partnered with the government.
The two organizations plan to pursue multifaceted cooperation going forward, including operating the academic credit recognition for overseas volunteer activities, expanding program participation, and jointly consulting to enhance program operations.
In particular, it is significant that, based on KOICA's systematic overseas volunteer management system, students can be provided with safe and highly effective field experiences abroad. Through this, JBNU plans to expand practical support measures, including not only academic credit recognition but also recommendation and selection for KOICA volunteer teams and programs linking to employment and career paths.
KOICA will manage overall operations — from pre-deployment training to local management, safety, and emergency medical support — to strengthen the program's stability.
Yun Myeong-suk, Executive Vice-President of Foreign Affairs and Professional Affairs, JBNU, said, "This agreement establishes a foundation that enables students to experience service and learning simultaneously in global settings," adding, "We will continue to expand international cooperation programs to strengthen our competitiveness as a glocal university."
