Professor Park Young-gi (Department of Civil Engineering), a former Executive Vice‑President of Student and Academic Affairs at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), donated 10 million won to the university development fund upon his retirement to support his alma mater and the training of future students.

JBNU held a donation ceremony for the development fund on the 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the President's Office at University Headquarters, attended by President Yang Oh-bong and Professor Park Young-gi. The 10 million won fund will be used, according to Professor Park's wishes, as scholarships for students in the Department of Civil Engineering.

This donation was made as Professor Park departs the campus where he served for decades. As an alumnus and faculty member, he wished to support the university's advancement and to offer hope to junior students who, despite financial hardship, diligently pursue their studies.

At the donation ceremony, Professor Park Young-gi said, "With only a few months remaining until my retirement, I decided to make this donation because I wanted to offer even a small measure of support to my alma mater and our future students," and added, "I am pleased to be able to return the abundant kindness I have received from the university to my students."

He added, "I hope this development fund will serve as a valuable resource enabling Department of Civil Engineering students to study with pride and to grow into key talents who contribute to regional and national development."

President Yang presented Professor Park with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of his meaningful gesture, saying, "We express deep respect and gratitude to Professor Park Young-gi, who has devoted his life to academic research and training future generations and who, even at the threshold of retirement, has shown such noble commitment to his students." He added, "We will use the donated funds carefully to nurture future talent in the field of civil engineering, honoring the professor’s warm intentions."

Professor Park Young-gi earned his bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Civil Engineering at JBNU and served as Executive Vice‑President of Student and Academic Affairs; he is widely regarded as a lifelong JBNU man. A leading authority in water quality engineering and water and wastewater engineering, he has contributed to establishing water management systems in the Jeonbuk region. As the private-sector chair of the Saemangeum Committee, he has also provided sharp advice and counsel on Saemangeum environmental issues, contributing to the advancement of regional and national environmental research and development.
